你要在我之前下到吉甲，看哪，我也将下到你那里去献上燔祭，献上平安祭。你要等候七天，直到我来到你那里，指示你当做的事。”

撒母耳招聚民众到米斯巴，到耶和华那里。

但如今，你们在自己的骄傲中夸耀。凡是这样的夸耀，都是邪恶的。

“现在你们所选择、所要求的王在这里，看哪，耶和华已经立了一个王统治你们。如果你们敬畏耶和华、服事他、听从他的话、不悖逆耶和华的命令，那么统治你们的王必与你们跟随耶和华你们的神。但如果你们不听从耶和华的话，悖逆耶和华的命令，耶和华的手就会对付你们，像对付你们的祖先一样。

然而，民众不肯听从撒母耳的话，他们说：“不，必须有一个王来统治我们！

今日不是收割小麦的时候吗？我向耶和华呼求，他就会降下雷雨。这样你们就会知道并看见你们为自己要求一个王，在耶和华眼中是行了极大的恶事！”
