Paul answered,“ I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. When they were all silent, he said to them in Aramaic:“ Brothers and fathers, listen now to my defense.”When they heard him speak to them in Aramaic, they became very quiet. Then Paul said:“ I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was thoroughly trained in the law of our ancestors. I was just as zealous for God as any of you are today.I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison,as the high priest and all the Council can themselves testify. I even obtained letters from them to their associates in Damascus, and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished. (niv)

“ Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord.“ Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. (niv)

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, (niv)

Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. (niv)

Then the Lord will relent and not bring the disaster he has pronounced against you.As for me, I am in your hands; do with me whatever you think is good and right.Be assured, however, that if you put me to death, you will bring the guilt of innocent blood on yourselves and on this city and on those who live in it, for in truth the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words in your hearing.”Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets,“ This man should not be sentenced to death! He has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.” (niv)

for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin, both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy before their eyes.”( These were the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the Desert of Zin.) (niv)

But the Lord Almighty will be exalted by his justice, and the holy God will be proved holy by his righteous acts. (niv)
