But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and[ be] ready always to[ give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

但須一心仰望基督作爾聖主。人若問爾、何以懷此望德、則侃侃而對、說明緣由；惟亦須以溫和恭敬之態度為之。

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

But make sure that in your hearts you honor Christ as Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect.

Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.

Let your speech[ be] alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;And[ that] they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Settle[ it] therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

While they behold your chaste conversation[ coupled] with fear.

Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

To whom God would make known what[ is] the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and[ be] not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard,[ and] which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

Then Peter and the[ other] apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.Him hath God exalted with his right hand[ to be] a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

That by two immutable things, in which[ it was] impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:Which[ hope] we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead,[ even] by him doth this man stand here before you whole.This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong[ reasons], saith the King of Jacob.

I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we[ are] not careful to answer thee in this matter.If it be[ so], our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver[ us] out of thine hand, O king.But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

But Paul said, I am a man[ which am] a Jew of Tarsus,[ a city] in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.And when he had given him licence, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great silence, he spake unto[ them] in the Hebrew tongue, saying,Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence[ which I make] now unto you.( And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)I am verily a man[ which am] a Jew, born in Tarsus,[ a city] in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel,[ and] taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Blessed[ be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

But[ let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible,[ even the ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.

And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning[ here] in fear:

Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.As for me, behold, I[ am] in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man[ is] not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.

For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that[ is] the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.

But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.
