约书亚又对祭司说：“抬起约柜，率领民众过河吧！”他们就抬起约柜，走在民众前面。

摩西把这律法写好，交给抬耶和华约柜的利未祭司和以色列的众长老。

“你们看见做祭司的利未人抬着你们上帝耶和华的约柜出发时，就要起身跟在后面。

“拔营出发时，哥辖的子孙要等到亚伦父子们把圣所和圣所的器具都盖好后，才可以来抬。他们负责抬这些会幕的器具，但不可触摸这些圣物，免得死亡。

大卫说：“除了利未人以外，谁也不可抬上帝的约柜，因为耶和华只拣选他们抬上帝的约柜，永远事奉祂。”

摩西没有把供物分给哥辖的子孙，因为他们要用肩扛所负责的圣物。

约书亚又在约旦河床抬约柜的祭司站立的地方立了十二块石头。石头至今还在那里。

大卫召来撒督和亚比亚他两位祭司以及利未人乌列、亚帅雅、约珥、示玛雅、以列、亚米拿达，对他们说：“你们是利未人的族长，你们和你们的族人都要洁净自己，好将以色列的上帝耶和华的约柜抬到我所预备的地方。先前你们没有抬约柜，我们也没有按规矩求问我们的上帝耶和华，以致祂向我们发怒。”于是祭司和利未人就洁净自己，好将以色列的上帝耶和华的约柜抬上来。利未人按照耶和华借摩西颁布的命令，用杠把上帝的约柜抬在肩上。

那时是收割的季节，河水高涨，淹没两岸。民众拔营准备过河的时候，抬约柜的祭司走在前头，当他们的脚刚一踏进河水，

嫩的儿子约书亚便召来祭司，对他们说：“你们抬起约柜，派七位祭司拿着七个羊角号走在耶和华的约柜前面。”
