“ Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.”

“ Have you seen how Ahab has made himself humble in my sight? Because he has done that, I will not bring trouble on him while he lives. But I will bring it on his royal house when his son is king.”

“ Do you see how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has done this, I will not do what I promised during his lifetime. It will happen to his sons; I will destroy his dynasty.”

“ Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? I will not bring the disaster during his lifetime, because he has humbled himself before me. I will bring the disaster on his house during his son’s lifetime.”

“ Do you see how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; I will bring the disaster upon his house in his son’s days.”

“ See how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the calamity in his days. In the days of his son I will bring the calamity on his house.”

Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but in his son’s day will I bring the evil upon his house.

Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days:[ but] in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.

“ Have you noticed how Ahab shows remorse before me? Because he shows remorse before me, I will not bring disaster on his dynasty during his lifetime, but during the reign of his son.”

“ See how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but I will bring the evil on his house in his son’s day.”

Jehu said to Bidkar his aide,“ Take him up and throw him on the plot of ground belonging to Naboth the Jezreelite. For remember, when you and I rode side by side behind Ahab his father, how the Lord made this pronouncement against him:‘ As surely as I saw yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons— declares the Lord— I will repay you on this plot of ground.’ Now therefore take him up and throw him on the plot of ground, in accordance with the word of the Lord.”

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

As soon as they heard of me they obeyed me; foreigners came cringing to me.

Say to God,“ How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you.

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love.

So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and said to him,“ Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews,‘ How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.

So Jehu struck down all who remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, all his great men and his close friends and his priests, until he left him none remaining.

When he killed them, they sought him; they repented and sought God earnestly.They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God their redeemer.But they flattered him with their mouths; they lied to him with their tongues.Their heart was not steadfast toward him; they were not faithful to his covenant.

He said,“ Throw her down.” So they threw her down. And some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses, and they trampled on her.Then he went in and ate and drank. And he said,“ See now to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king’s daughter.”But when they went to bury her, they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.When they came back and told him, he said,“ This is the word of the Lord, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite:‘ In the territory of Jezreel the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel,and the corpse of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the territory of Jezreel, so that no one can say, This is Jezebel.’”Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. So Jehu wrote letters and sent them to Samaria, to the rulers of the city, to the elders, and to the guardians of the sons of Ahab, saying,“ Now then, as soon as this letter comes to you, seeing your master’s sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, fortified cities also, and weapons,select the best and fittest of your master’s sons and set him on his father’s throne and fight for your master’s house.”But they were exceedingly afraid and said,“ Behold, the two kings could not stand before him. How then can we stand?”So he who was over the palace, and he who was over the city, together with the elders and the guardians, sent to Jehu, saying,“ We are your servants, and we will do all that you tell us. We will not make anyone king. Do whatever is good in your eyes.”Then he wrote to them a second letter, saying,“ If you are on my side, and if you are ready to obey me, take the heads of your master’s sons and come to me at Jezreel tomorrow at this time.” Now the king’s sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who were bringing them up.And as soon as the letter came to them, they took the king’s sons and slaughtered them, seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel.

“ And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus have you said:‘ Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we rot away because of them. How then can we live?’Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?

Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?

Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon,“ Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
