David remarked longingly to his men,“ Oh, how I would love some of that good water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem.”So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew some water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. But he refused to drink it. Instead, he poured it out as an offering to the Lord.“ The Lord forbid that I should drink this!” he exclaimed.“ This water is as precious as the blood of these men who risked their lives to bring it to me.” So David did not drink it. These are examples of the exploits of the Three.

“ You should not have gloated when they exiled your relatives to distant lands. You should not have rejoiced when the people of Judah suffered such misfortune. You should not have spoken arrogantly in that terrible time of trouble.You should not have plundered the land of Israel when they were suffering such calamity. You should not have gloated over their destruction when they were suffering such calamity. You should not have seized their wealth when they were suffering such calamity.You should not have stood at the crossroads, killing those who tried to escape. You should not have captured the survivors and handed them over in their terrible time of trouble.

Fight harder next time, and conquer the city!”When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him.When the period of mourning was over, David sent for her and brought her to the palace, and she became one of his wives. Then she gave birth to a son. But the Lord was displeased with what David had done.

Then David said to the young man who had brought the news,“ Where are you from?” And he replied,“ I am a foreigner, an Amalekite, who lives in your land.”“ Why were you not afraid to kill the Lord’s anointed one?” David asked.Then David said to one of his men,“ Kill him!” So the man thrust his sword into the Amalekite and killed him.“ You have condemned yourself,” David said,“ for you yourself confessed that you killed the Lord’s anointed one.”
