“ But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead and let them be among those who eat at your table. They stood by me when I fled from your brother Absalom.

大衛到了瑪哈念，亞捫族的拉巴人拿轄的兒子朔比、羅底巴人亞米利的兒子瑪吉、基列的羅基琳人巴西萊、帶着床鋪、被單碗盆、瓦器、小麥、大麥、麵粉、焙穀、豆子、紅豆、蜜、奶酪、綿羊、牛的乾酪，給大衛和跟隨的人喫；因為他們說：『眾民在曠野一定饑渴困倦的。』

你和你眾子和僕人都要為他耕地，收進五穀，使你主人的眾子有飯喫；至於你主人的兒子米非波設、他卻要經常在我席上喫飯。』洗巴有十五個兒子、二十個僕人。

有一個報信的人來見大衛說：『以色列的人心都歸向押沙龍了。』大衛就對所有在耶路撒冷跟隨他的臣僕說：『我們要起來逃走；不然就沒有躲避押沙龍的機會了；要趕快地去，恐怕他迅速趕上了我們，撞禍到我們身上來，用刀擊殺了城裏的人。』王的臣僕對王說：『凡我主我王所抉擇的、看吧，僕人都要遵行。』

你看，我站在門外敲門；若有人聽見我的聲音來開門，我就要進去找他，同他喫飯，他也同我喫飯。得勝的、我必賜他和我同坐我寶座，正如我得了勝，和我父同坐他寶座一樣。

你的朋友、和你父親的朋友、你都不可離棄。你遭患難的日子、不可上你弟兄家裏去。附近的鄰居勝過遠隔的弟兄。

基列人巴西萊從羅基琳下來，跟王走到約但河，要在約但河邊給王送行。巴西萊非常老邁，已經八十歲。王住在瑪哈念的時候，是他供養王的：因為他是個極大的財主。王對巴西萊說：『你和我一同過去，我要在耶路撒冷供養你和我在一起。』巴西萊對王說：『我活着的年日還能有多少、可讓我跟王同上耶路撒冷呢？我今年八十歲了；還能曉得辨別好壞麼？你僕人還能嘗出所喫所喝的滋味麼？還曉得聽男女歌唱者的聲音麼？僕人何必再做我主我王的累贅呢？僕人只要跟王走一小段路到約但河；王何必將這報償賞報我呢？請准僕人回去，我好死在本城，在我父母墓旁。看哪，你僕人金罕在這裏呢；讓他同我主我王過去；你看怎麼好，就怎麼待他吧。王說：『金罕要跟我一同過去；我呢、你看怎麼好，我就怎麼待他；凡你所抉擇要我作的，我總要為你作。』於是眾民都過約但河，王卻站着；王和巴西萊親嘴，給他祝福；巴西萊就回自己地方去了。王往前走、到了吉甲，金罕也和他一同往前走；猶大眾民和以色列民的一半就送王往前走。

主人來了，看見僕人儆醒着，那些僕人就有福啊！我實在告訴你們，他必束上帶，叫他們坐席，自己倒上前去服事他們呢！

你們是我受試煉中始終同我在一起的；我呢、我父怎樣派我得國，我也怎樣派你們得國，使你們在我國裏、在我桌子上喫喝；你們也必坐在座位上，審判治理以色列十二個支派。

因為我祖我父全家在我主我王面前不過是該死的人；王卻使僕人列在王席上喫飯的人中間。我還有甚麼權利再向王哀呼呢？』
