But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying,“ It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”

你這樣待我，我若在你眼前蒙恩，求你立時將我殺了，不叫我見自己的苦情。」

日頭出來的時候，神安排炎熱的東風，日頭曝曬約拿的頭，使他發昏，他就為自己求死，說：「我死了比活着還好！」

耶和華啊，現在求你取我的命吧！因為我死了比活着還好。」

願我生的那日受咒詛；願我母親產我的那日不蒙福！給我父親報信說「你得了兒子」，使我父親甚歡喜的，願那人受咒詛。願那人像耶和華所傾覆而不後悔的城邑；願他早晨聽見哀聲，晌午聽見吶喊；因他在我未出胎的時候不殺我，使我母親成了我的墳墓，胎就時常重大。我為何出胎見勞碌愁苦，使我的年日因羞愧消滅呢？

在那裏有雅各井；耶穌因走路困乏，就坐在井旁。那時約有午正。

你們要過到甲尼察看，從那裏往大城哈馬去，又下到非利士人的迦特，看那些國比你們的國還強嗎？境界比你們的境界還寬嗎？

因我活着就是基督，我死了就有益處。但我在肉身活着，若成就我工夫的果子，我就不知道該挑選甚麼。我正在兩難之間，情願離世與基督同在，因為這是好得無比的。然而，我在肉身活着，為你們更是要緊的。

他們正走着說話，忽有火車火馬將二人隔開，以利亞就乘旋風升天去了。

以利亞見這光景就起來逃命，到了猶大的別是巴，將僕人留在那裏，

去追趕神人，遇見他坐在橡樹底下，就問他說：「你是從猶大來的神人不是？」他說：「是。」

皮袋的水用盡了，夏甲就把孩子撇在小樹底下，自己走開約有一箭之遠，相對而坐，說：「我不忍見孩子死」，就相對而坐，放聲大哭。

受患難的人為何有光賜給他呢？心中愁苦的人為何有生命賜給他呢？他們切望死，卻不得死；求死，勝於求隱藏的珍寶。他們尋見墳墓就快樂，極其歡喜。

你豈比挪亞們強呢？挪亞們坐落在眾河之間，周圍有水；海作她的濠溝，又作她的城牆。

你們看那天上的飛鳥，也不種，也不收，也不積蓄在倉裏，你們的天父尚且養活牠。你們不比飛鳥貴重得多嗎？

這卻怎麼樣呢？我們比他們強嗎？決不是的！因我們已經證明：猶太人和希臘人都在罪惡之下。
