我们不过是瓦器，里面却有这宝贝，要显明这莫大的能力是上帝的，而不是我们自己的。

亚伯拉罕在上帝面前是我们所有人的父，正如圣经上说：“我已经立你为万族之父。”他所信的上帝是能够使死人复活、使无变有的上帝。他在毫无指望的情况下仍然满怀盼望地相信上帝的应许，因而成为“万族之父”，正如上帝的应许：“你的后裔必这么多”。那时他将近百岁，知道自己身体如同已死，撒拉也过了生育的岁数，但他的信心仍然没有动摇。他没有因不信而怀疑上帝的应许，反倒信心更加坚定，将荣耀归给上帝。他完全相信上帝必能实现祂的应许。

耶和华对基甸说：“你的人太多了，我不能把米甸人交在你们手中，免得以色列人以为是靠自己的力量救了自己。

但耶和华对基甸说：“人还是太多，你带他们到下面的泉水边，我会在那里为你挑选人员。”

耶稣从那里退到泰尔和西顿境内。那地方有个迦南的妇人前来大声恳求耶稣：“主啊！大卫的后裔啊！可怜我吧！我的女儿被鬼附身，受尽折磨！”
