有一次，耶羅波安從耶路撒冷出來，示羅人亞希雅先知在路上遇見他。亞希雅身上穿著一件新衣，那時田野裡只有他們二人。

有一天，以利躺臥在自己的地方，他的眼睛早已昏花，不能看得清楚了。

那時以利九十八歲了，眼睛發直，不能看見。

以色列全體會眾聚集在示羅，把會幕豎立在那裡，因為那地在他們面前被征服了。

以撒年老，眼睛昏花，看不見東西了；他把他的大兒子以掃叫了來，對他說：“我兒啊！”以掃回答他：“我在這裡。”

以色列因為年老，眼睛昏花，看不清楚。約瑟領他們到他跟前去，他就與他們親吻，擁抱他們。

那時，看守房子的發抖，強壯的彎腰，推磨的稀少，都停了工，往窗外看的都昏暗了，

我們一生的年日是七十歲，如果強壯，可到八十歲，但其中可誇耀的，不過是勞苦愁煩；我們的年日轉眼即逝，我們也如飛而去了。

耶羅波安對他的妻子說：“你起來改裝，使人認不出你是耶羅波安的妻子。到示羅去，有亞希雅先知在那裡，他曾對我說，我必作這民的王。

摩西死的時候，已經一百二十歲；他的眼睛沒有昏花，他的精力也沒有衰退。

軍隊回到營裡，以色列的長老說：“今天耶和華為甚麼在非利士人面前擊敗我們呢？我們要把耶和華的約櫃從示羅抬到我們這裡來。約櫃一到我們中間，就會拯救我們脫離仇敵的手。”於是他們派人到示羅去，從那裡把坐在二基路伯中間萬軍之耶和華的約櫃抬來；以利的兩個兒子，何弗尼和非尼哈，也與神的約櫃一同來了。

“你們可以到示羅我的地方去，就是先前我名的居所，看看我因我子民以色列的邪惡，對那地方所行的。現在，因你們行了這一切事，我不斷懇切告誡你們，你們卻不聽；我呼喚你們，你們卻不答話。”這是耶和華的宣告。“所以我從前怎樣對待示羅，將來也怎樣對待你們所倚靠的那稱為我名下的殿，以及我賜給你們和你們列祖的地方。
