“ Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke on us, and we will serve you.”

“ Your father was a hard master,” they said.“ Lighten the harsh labor demands and heavy taxes that your father imposed on us. Then we will be your loyal subjects.”

他說：「管轄你們的王必用這樣的方式：他必派你們的兒子為他駕車，趕馬，在他的戰車前奔跑。他要為自己立千夫長、五十夫長；耕種他的田地，收割他的莊稼；打造他的兵器和車上的器械。他必叫你們的女兒為他製造香膏，作廚師與烤餅的，也必取你們最好的田地、葡萄園、橄欖園，賜給他的臣僕。你們的糧食和葡萄園所出產的，他必徵收十分之一給他的官員和臣僕，又必叫你們的僕人婢女，健壯的青年和你們的驢為他做工。你們的羊羣，他必徵收十分之一，你們自己也必作他的僕人。那日，你們必因自己所選的王哀求耶和華，但那日耶和華卻不應允你們。」

所羅門在全以色列有十二個官員，供給王和王室的食物，每年各人供給一個月。

所羅門王挑取服勞役的工人，為要建造耶和華的殿、自己的宮、米羅、耶路撒冷的城牆、夏瑣、米吉多和基色。

「你父親使我們負重軛，現在求你減輕你父親所加給我們的苦工和重軛，我們就服事你。」羅波安對他們說：「過三天再來見我吧！」百姓就走了。

我心裏柔和謙卑，你們當負我的軛，向我學習；這樣，你們的心靈就必得安息。因為我的軛是容易的，我的擔子是輕省的。」

他們把難挑的重擔捆起來，擱在人的肩上，但自己一個指頭也不肯動。

猶大人和以色列人如同海邊的沙那樣多，都吃喝快樂。所羅門統治諸國，從大河到非利士地，直到埃及的邊界。所羅門在世的日子，這些國都向他進貢，服事他。所羅門每日所用的食物：三十歌珥細麵，六十歌珥粗麵，十頭肥牛，二十頭草場的牛，一百隻羊，還有鹿、羚羊、麃子，以及肥禽。所羅門管理整個大河西邊，從提弗薩直到迦薩，以及大河西邊的諸王，屬他的四境盡都平安。所羅門在世的日子，從但到別是巴，猶大和以色列各人都在自己的葡萄樹下和無花果樹下安然居住。

惟有以色列人，所羅門不使他們作奴僕，而是作他的戰士、臣僕、官長、軍官、戰車長、騎兵長。這些是所羅門工程的五百五十個監工，他們在百姓中監管作工的人。
