Then the woman told Elijah,“ Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the Lord truly speaks through you.”

“ Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!”“ No, my lord!” she cried.“ O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.”

The prophet Shemaiah then met with Rehoboam and Judah’s leaders, who had all fled to Jerusalem because of Shishak. Shemaiah told them,“ This is what the Lord says: You have abandoned me, so I am abandoning you to Shishak.”Then the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said,“ The Lord is right in doing this to us!”When the Lord saw their change of heart, he gave this message to Shemaiah:“ Since the people have humbled themselves, I will not completely destroy them and will soon give them some relief. I will not use Shishak to pour out my anger on Jerusalem.

But when she came to the man of God at the mountain, she fell to the ground before him and caught hold of his feet. Gehazi began to push her away, but the man of God said,“ Leave her alone. She is deeply troubled, but the Lord has not told me what it is.”

This is the blessing that Moses, the man of God, gave to the people of Israel before his death:

But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.

At the Lord’s command, a man of God from Judah went to Bethel, arriving there just as Jeroboam was approaching the altar to burn incense.

Then she said to Elijah,“ O man of God, what have you done to me? Have you come here to point out my sins and kill my son?”

As she approached the man of God at Mount Carmel, Elisha saw her in the distance. He said to Gehazi,“ Look, the woman from Shunem is coming.

She sent a message to her husband:“ Send one of the servants and a donkey so that I can hurry to the man of God and come right back.”

When King Jeroboam heard the man of God speaking against the altar at Bethel, he pointed at him and shouted,“ Seize that man!” But instantly the king’s hand became paralyzed in that position, and he couldn’t pull it back.At the same time a wide crack appeared in the altar, and the ashes poured out, just as the man of God had predicted in his message from the Lord.

As it happened, there was an old prophet living in Bethel, and his sons came home and told him what the man of God had done in Bethel that day. They also told their father what the man had said to the king.
