Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said,“ I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.

Adonijah was the son of David and his wife Haggith. He came forward and announced,“ I’m going to be the next king.” So he got chariots and horses ready. He also got 50 men to run in front of him.

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,“ I will be king.” And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting,“ I will make myself king.” So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him.

Adonijah son of Haggith kept exalting himself, saying,“ I will be king!” He prepared chariots, cavalry, and fifty men to run ahead of him.

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,“ I will be king.” So he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, with fifty men to run before him.

In the course of time, Absalom provided himself with a chariot and horses and with fifty men to run ahead of him. (niv)

Then King David said to the whole assembly:“ My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the Lord God. (niv)

Their land is full of silver and gold; there is no end to their treasures. Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots. (niv)

“ I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (niv)

“ Ask all the citizens of Shechem,‘ Which is better for you: to have all seventy of Jerub-Baal’s sons rule over you, or just one man?’ Remember, I am your flesh and blood.” (niv)

Then Nathan asked Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother,“ Have you not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, has become king, and our lord David knows nothing about it? (niv)

For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (niv)

David said,“ My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the Lord should be of great magnificence and fame and splendor in the sight of all the nations. Therefore I will make preparations for it.” So David made extensive preparations before his death.Then he called for his son Solomon and charged him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel.David said to Solomon:“ My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the Name of the Lord my God.But this word of the Lord came to me:‘ You have shed much blood and have fought many wars. You are not to build a house for my Name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.But you will have a son who will be a man of peace and rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. His name will be Solomon, and I will grant Israel peace and quiet during his reign.He is the one who will build a house for my Name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. And I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’“ Now, my son, the Lord be with you, and may you have success and build the house of the Lord your God, as he said you would. (niv)
