But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast.

For my part I have used none of these rights, nor have I written these things that they may be applied in my case. For it would be better for me to die than for anyone to deprive me of my boast!

我在你們那裡經濟拮据的時候，沒有拖累過你們任何人，因為馬其頓來的弟兄姊妹補足了我的缺乏。我沒有在任何方面成為你們的負擔，將來也不會成為你們的負擔。我憑我心中基督的真理說，亞該亞地區無人會阻止我這樣誇口。為什麼呢？難道我不愛你們嗎？上帝知道我愛你們！我現在所做的，將來還會繼續做下去，為了要斷絕那些投機分子的機會，使他們無法吹噓自己的職分與我們一樣。

如果別人有權要求你們供應他們，我們豈不更有權嗎？可是我們從來沒有用過這權利，反而凡事忍耐，免得妨礙了基督的福音。

也沒有白吃誰的飯，而是晝夜辛勤工作，免得成為你們任何人的負擔。

他們夫婦跟保羅是同行，都以製造帳篷為業，保羅就留下來和他們同住，一起做工。

弟兄姊妹，你們一定記得我們的勞苦和艱難。我們一面向你們傳福音，一面晝夜辛勤工作，免得成為你們任何人的負擔。

你們都知道，我親手做工養活自己和同工。

還要親手勞作。我們被人咒罵，就為對方祝福；受人迫害，就逆來順受；

但不論誰使這樣一個小信徒失足犯罪，他的下場比把大磨石拴在他脖子上沉到深海裡還要慘。

你們什麼地方不及其他教會呢？我唯一「虧待」你們的地方就是沒有成為你們的負擔！希望各位原諒我的不公道！如今我打算第三次到你們那裡。我不會拖累你們的，因為我想得到的是你們，而不是你們的財物。兒女不必為父母積財，父母理當為兒女積財。為了你們的靈魂，我甘願付出，包括自己的生命。難道我越愛你們，就越得不到你們的愛嗎？算了！我沒有拖累過你們，但居然有人說我狡猾，用詭計騙你們。請問，在我派到你們那裡的人當中，我藉著誰佔過你們的便宜呢？我懇求提多去你們那裡，並派弟兄與他同去。難道提多佔過你們的便宜嗎？我們行事為人豈不是心靈相通，步調一致嗎？

掃羅卻在摧毀教會，他挨家挨戶搜尋，把男女信徒抓進監裡。

不過哪怕是犧牲性命，我也在所不辭，，只盼望我能跑完當跑的路程，完成主耶穌交託給我的使命，為上帝充滿恩典的福音做見證。

我殷切地期待和盼望：我不會感到任何羞愧，而是放膽無懼，不管是生是死，都要一如既往地使基督在我身上得到尊崇。因為對我來說，活著是為了基督，死了也有益處。如果活在世上，我可以做工，多結果子。我真不知道該怎麼選擇！我處在兩難之間。我情願離開世界，與基督在一起，那實在是再好不過了。
