But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world— how he can please his wife—

But a married man has to think about his earthly responsibilities and how to please his wife.

but he that is married is careful for the things of the world, how he may please his wife,

Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. (niv)

Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the Lord, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat.Her husband Elkanah would say to her,“ Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?” (niv)

and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you,so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. (niv)

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for herto make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—for we are members of his body.“ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”This is a profound mystery— but I am talking about Christ and the church.However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. (niv)
