Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you— although if you can gain your freedom, do so.

Were you a slave when God chose you? Don’t let it trouble you. But if you can get your master to set you free, do it.

Were you a bondservant when called? Do not be concerned about it.( But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity.)

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Whether Jews or Greeks or slaves or free, we were all made to drink of the one Spirit.

Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are perverse.For this finds God’s favor, if because of conscience toward God someone endures hardships in suffering unjustly.For what credit is it if you sin and are mistreated and endure it? But if you do good and suffer and so endure, this finds favor with God.For to this you were called, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving an example for you to follow in his steps.He committed no sin nor was deceit found in his mouth.When he was maligned, he did not answer back; when he suffered, he threatened no retaliation, but committed himself to God who judges justly.He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we may cease from sinning and live for righteousness. So do not be overly concerned about what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not worry about such things.

But Martha was distracted with all the preparations she had to make, so she came up to him and said,“ Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work alone? Tell her to help me.”But the Lord answered her,“ Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things,

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female– for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said,“ I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”

Those who are under the yoke as slaves must regard their own masters as deserving of full respect. This will prevent the name of God and Christian teaching from being discredited.But those who have believing masters must not show them less respect because they are brothers. Instead they are to serve all the more, because those who benefit from their service are believers and dearly loved. Teach them and exhort them about these things.If someone spreads false teachings and does not agree with sound words( that is, those of our Lord Jesus Christ) and with the teaching that accords with godliness,

by casting all your cares on him because he cares for you.

Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content in any circumstance.

“ But be on your guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day close down upon you suddenly like a trap.
