If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,

A person may build on it using gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay or straw.

Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials— gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw.

For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts,

always learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Let no one rob you of your prize by self- abasement and worshiping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,and not holding firmly to the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, grows with God’s growth.If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances,“ Don’t handle, nor taste, nor touch”( all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men?These things indeed appear like wisdom in self- imposed worship, humility, and severity to the body; but aren’t of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.

Be careful that you don’t let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elements of the world, and not after Christ.

Don’t be carried away by various and strange teachings, for it is good that the heart be established by grace, not by food, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited.

But shun empty chatter, for it will go further in ungodliness,and those words will consume like gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus:men who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some.

Don’t you add to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar.

They are more to be desired than gold, yes, than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey and the extract of the honeycomb.

How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.

But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

Receive my instruction rather than silver, knowledge rather than choice gold.

If you instruct the brothers of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which you have followed.But refuse profane and old wives’ fables. Exercise yourself toward godliness.

Now I beg you, brothers, look out for those who are causing the divisions and occasions of stumbling, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and turn away from them.

Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor, and some for dishonor.

If anyone teaches a different doctrine, and doesn’t consent to sound words, the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness,

But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron,forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him.For there are also many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,whose mouths must be stopped: men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain’s sake.

For we are not as so many, peddling the word of God. But as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, we speak in Christ.

For bronze I will bring gold; for iron I will bring silver; for wood, bronze, and for stones, iron. I will also make peace your governor, and righteousness your ruler.

The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.
