I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling.

When I came to you, I was weak and very afraid and trembling all over.

Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?If I must boast, I will boast in the things which concern my infirmity.

Of such a one I will boast; yet of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities.For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to be or hears from me.And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.And He said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ— who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you.

For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. And this also we pray, that you may be made complete.

For indeed, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears.

But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses,

But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out,“ These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.Jason has harbored them, and these are all acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king— Jesus.”And they troubled the crowd and the rulers of the city when they heard these things.So when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men.

But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to them,“ Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”

Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.So then death is working in us, but life in you.

And when they had come to him, he said to them:“ You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you,serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews;

“ For his letters,” they say,“ are weighty and powerful, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.”

We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless.And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.

You know that because of physical infirmity I preached the gospel to you at the first.And my trial which was in my flesh you did not despise or reject, but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

When Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him to the judgment seat,

Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.

After these things Paul departed from Athens and went to Corinth.
