Then, when I arrive, I will give letters of introduction to the men you approve and send them with your gift to Jerusalem.

When I arrive, I will send some people with your gift to Jerusalem. They will be people you consider to be good. And I will give them letters that explain who they are.

We have sent along with him the brother whose fame in the things of the gospel has spread through all the churches;and not only that, but he has also been appointed by the churches to travel with us in this gracious work, which is being administered by us for the glory of the Lord Himself, and to show our readiness,taking precaution so that no one will discredit us in our administration of this generous gift;for we have regard for what is honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of other people.We have sent with them our brother, whom we have often tested and found diligent in many things, but now even more diligent because of his great confidence in you.As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker among you; as for our brothers, they are messengers of the churches, a glory to Christ.Therefore, openly before the churches, show them the proof of your love and of our reason for boasting about you.

begging us with much urging for the favor of participation in the support of the saints,

But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I shall find out, not the words of those who are arrogant, but their power.For the kingdom of God is not in words, but in power.What do you desire? That I come to you with a rod, or with love and a spirit of gentleness?

So we urged Titus that as he had previously made a beginning, so he would also complete in you this gracious work as well.

If anyone is hungry, have him eat at home, so that you do not come together for judgment. As to the remaining matters, I will give instructions when I come.

Now at this time, as the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint developed on the part of the Hellenistic Jews against the native Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food.So the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples and said,“ It is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables.Instead, brothers and sisters, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”The announcement found approval with the whole congregation; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch.And they brought these men before the apostles; and after praying, they laid their hands on them.
