This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city.When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said,“ You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas”( which, when translated, is Peter). (niv)

What I mean is this: One of you says,“ I follow Paul”; another,“ I follow Apollos”; another,“ I follow Cephas”; still another,“ I follow Christ.” (niv)

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said,“ Peace be with you!”After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”And with that he breathed on them and said,“ Receive the Holy Spirit.If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”Now Thomas( also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.So the other disciples told him,“ We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them,“ Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said,“ Peace be with you!” (niv)

Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas? (niv)

Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them,“ Do you have anything here to eat?”They gave him a piece of broiled fish,and he took it and ate it in their presence.He said to them,“ This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.He told them,“ This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.You are witnesses of these things.I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” (niv)
