Didn’t the Christ have to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?”

When evening had come, a rich man from Arimathaea, named Joseph, who himself was also Jesus’ disciple came.This man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given up.Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone against the door of the tomb, and departed.

Behold, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man( he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for God’s Kingdom:this man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body.He took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid.

Becoming terrified, they bowed their faces down to the earth. They said to them,“ Why do you seek the living among the dead?He isn’t here, but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee,saying that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again?”

To these he also showed himself alive after he suffered, by many proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days, and speaking about God’s Kingdom.

saying,“ The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.”

because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.”

For he was teaching his disciples, and said to them,“ The Son of Man is being handed over to the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, on the third day he will rise again.”

From that time, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.They were saying among themselves,“ Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?”for it was very big. Looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back.Entering into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were amazed.He said to them,“ Don’t be amazed. You seek Jesus, the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen. He is not here. Behold, the place where they laid him!But go, tell his disciples and Peter,‘ He goes before you into Galilee. There you will see him, as he said to you.’”

Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.Behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from the sky, and came and rolled away the stone from the door, and sat on it.His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.For fear of him, the guards shook, and became like dead men.The angel answered the women,“ Don’t be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus, who has been crucified.He is not here, for he has risen, just like he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying.

Joseph of Arimathaea, a prominent council member who also himself was looking for God’s Kingdom, came. He boldly went in to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body.Pilate marveled if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had been dead long.When he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.He bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb which had been cut out of a rock. He rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.

searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ, which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that would follow them.

After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away Jesus’ body. Pilate gave him permission. He came therefore and took away his body.Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred Roman pounds.So they took Jesus’ body, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden. In the garden was a new tomb in which no man had ever yet been laid.Then because of the Jews’ Preparation Day( for the tomb was near at hand) they laid Jesus there.Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went early, while it was still dark, to the tomb, and saw the stone taken away from the tomb.Therefore she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them,“ They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have laid him!”Therefore Peter and the other disciple went out, and they went toward the tomb.They both ran together. The other disciple outran Peter, and came to the tomb first.Stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths lying, yet he didn’t enter in.Then Simon Peter came, following him, and entered into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying,and the cloth that had been on his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but rolled up in a place by itself.So then the other disciple who came first to the tomb also entered in, and he saw and believed.For as yet they didn’t know the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead.
