晚餐后，他也照样拿起杯来，说：“这杯是用我的血所立的新约，为你们所流的。

为此，基督做了新约的中保，藉着死赎清了人在第一个约之下的过犯，好使那些蒙召的人可以得到所应许的永恒继业。要知道，遗嘱在哪里生效，立遗嘱之人的死亡就必须得到证实。事实上，人死了，遗嘱才能确立，因为立遗嘱之人活着的时候，遗嘱绝对不能生效。原来不用血，第一个约也不能成立，就是说，摩西按照律法向全体民众宣讲了所有的诫命之后，拿了牛犊和山羊的血，掺上水，用深红色的羊毛和牛膝草，洒在那书卷上和全体民众身上，说：“这是立约的血，是神吩咐给你们的。”

愿赐平安的神，就是藉着永恒之约的血，把群羊的大牧人我们的主耶稣从死人中领上来的那一位，

他也使我们能够做新约的仆人——不属于律法条文，而属于圣灵；因为律法条文带来死亡，而圣灵却赐予生命。

我们所祝谢的福杯，难道不是在基督之血里的一种契合吗？我们所掰的饼，难道不是在基督身体里的一种契合吗？

可是，他们的心思刚硬；事实上，直到今天诵读旧约的时候，同样的帕子仍然存在，没有被揭去，因为那帕子只有在基督里才被除去。

因此无论谁，不合宜地吃主的饼、喝主的杯，就是干犯主的身体、主的血。这样，一个人应当省察自己，然后才吃这饼、喝这杯。
