We should not test Christ, as some of them did— and were killed by snakes.

The people spoke against God and against Moses:“ Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, there is no water, and our soul loathes this disgusting food!”Yahweh sent venomous snakes among the people, and they bit the people. Many people of Israel died.

They tempted God in their heart by asking food according to their desire.

Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, and didn’t keep his testimonies,

He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested Yahweh, saying,“ Is Yahweh among us, or not?”

Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said,“ Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?”

don’t harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness,where your fathers tested me and tried me, and saw my deeds for forty years.Therefore I was displeased with that generation, and said,‘ They always err in their heart, but they didn’t know my ways.’As I swore in my wrath,‘ They will not enter into my rest.’”

You shall not tempt Yahweh your God, as you tempted him in Massah.

but gave in to craving in the desert, and tested God in the wasteland.

when your fathers tempted me, tested me, and saw my work.

A man who disregards Moses’ law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses.How much worse punishment do you think he will be judged worthy of who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?For we know him who said,“ Vengeance belongs to me;” says the Lord,“ I will repay.” Again,“ The Lord will judge his people.”

“ Behold, I send an angel before you, to keep you by the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.Pay attention to him, and listen to his voice. Don’t provoke him, for he will not pardon your disobedience, for my name is in him.
