誰都不應當求自己的益處，而應當求別人的益處。

我誠然是自由的，不屬於任何人，但我使自己成為所有人的奴僕，為了贏得更多的人。對猶太人，我就成為一個像猶太人那樣的人，為了贏得猶太人；對律法之下的人，雖然我自己不在律法之下，我卻成為一個像是在律法之下的人，為了贏得在律法之下的人；對沒有律法的人，我就成為一個像是沒有律法的人那樣，為了贏得沒有律法的人——對神，我不是沒有律法的，而是在基督的律法之下。對軟弱的人，我就成為軟弱的人，為了贏得軟弱的人。對什麼樣的人，我就成為什麼樣的人，一定要拯救一些人。並且我做這一切，都是為了福音的緣故，好使我能成為在福音上一同有份的人。

我現在到底是要得人的信任，還是要得神的信任呢？難道我是想討人的喜悅嗎？如果我仍然討人的喜悅，我就不是基督的奴僕了。

我們每個人當為了鄰人的益處讓他喜悅，使他得造就。因為基督不但不求自己的喜悅，反而像經上所記的：「那些責罵你之人的責罵，都落在我身上了。」

你們一直以為我們是在向你們申辯嗎？我們是在基督裡，在神面前說話。各位蒙愛的人哪，這一切都是為了造就你們。

或許激起我同胞的嫉妒之心，好拯救他們中的一些人。

除了這些外在的事，還有對各教會的掛慮，天天壓在我身上。有誰軟弱，我不軟弱呢？有誰被絆倒，我不心如火燒呢？
