所羅門就在耶路撒冷、永恆主向他父親大衛顯現的摩利亞山上他所豫備在「大衛地方、」在耶布斯人阿珥楠禾場上的、開始建造永恆主的殿。

殿前的廊子長二十肘，和殿的寬度相等；廊子寬十肘；高二十肘；裏面包着淨金。

以色列人出埃及地以後四百八十年，所羅門作王管理以色列、第四年西弗月、就是二月、他開始為永恆主建殿。所羅門王為永恆主建的殿、長六十肘，寬二十肘，高三十肘。殿堂前的廊子長二十肘，和殿的寬度一樣；廊子在殿前闊十肘。他又為殿作了窗戶、有內寬外窄的窗格子。他建造了樓房靠着殿的牆、圍着殿四圍的牆；對着殿堂和內殿他四圍造了廂房。廂房下層寬五肘，中層寬六肘，第三層寬七肘；因為殿的外面四圍有坎，免得梁木插入殿的牆裏。殿建造的時候、是用石山上琢好了的整塊石頭；因此當殿建造的時候、槌子、斧子，或任何鐵器的響聲都沒有聽見。

跟他進去的有祭司亞撒利雅，還有同亞撒利雅在一起的、永恆主的祭司八十個、有勇氣的人。他們阻擋烏西雅王，對他說：『烏西雅啊，向永恆主燒香並不是你應作的事，乃是亞倫子孫作祭司者的事啊；他們才是受聖職來燒香的。你出聖所吧！因為你行了僭妄事了；並且永恆主上帝也不使你得尊榮。』烏西雅就很生氣；他原有香爐在手裏要燒香；他一向祭司生氣的時候，就在永恆主殿中香壇旁邊祭司們面前、他額上就患起痲瘋屬之病來了。祭司長亞撒利雅和眾祭司正在觀看，只見他額上患起痲瘋屬之病來了！他們慌慌忙忙地推他離開那裏，他自己呢、也趕快出來，因為永恆主以災病擊打了他。
