所羅門在耶路撒冷，在耶和華向他父親大衛顯現過的摩利亞山上，就是在耶布斯人阿珥楠的禾場上，大衛預備的地方，開工建造耶和華的殿。

殿前走廊長九公尺，與殿的寬度相等；高九公尺（“高九公尺”原文作“高一百二十”；現參照古譯本修譯）；裡面貼上純金。

以色列人出埃及地以後四百八十年，所羅門作以色列王的第四年西弗月，就是二月，他動工建造耶和華的殿。所羅門為耶和華所建的殿，長二十七公尺，寬九公尺，高十三公尺半。殿的前廊長九公尺，和殿的寬度一樣，寬四公尺半。又為殿做了窗架子內寬外窄的窗戶。緊靠殿牆，就是圍著外殿和內殿的牆，他又建造平臺，圍繞殿的四周，做成廂房。廂房的下層寬兩公尺兩公寸；中層寬兩公尺七公寸；第三層寬三公尺一公寸。他在殿牆外面四周留有暗架，所以梁木不必插入殿牆裡。建殿是用採石場預備好了的石料；所以建殿的時候，在殿裡聽不到鎚子、斧頭或任何鐵器的聲音。

跟隨烏西雅進去的，有亞撒利雅祭司，還有耶和華的祭司八十個，都是英勇的人。他們阻止烏西雅王，對他說：“烏西雅啊，給耶和華燒香不是你應作的事，而是亞倫的子孫作祭司的事，他們是分別為聖作燒香的事；請離開聖所吧，因為你作了不應該作的事了，你必不能從耶和華神那裡得著尊榮。”於是烏西雅十分忿怒，手裡拿著香爐正要燒香，他向眾祭司發怒的時候，就在耶和華的殿裡香壇旁邊眾祭司的面前，他的額上忽然長出了大痲風。大祭司亞撒利雅和眾祭司看著他，忽然見他的額上長了大痲風，就急忙催他出殿；他自己也急忙出去，因為耶和華擊打了他。
