猶大超越諸昆弟、君王由彼而出、第長子之業歸約瑟、

猶大卓越於昆弟間、立為家督、惟約瑟得長子業。

and though Judah was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler came from him, the rights of the firstborn belonged to Joseph)—

Judah also did not have the rights of the oldest son. Judah didn’t have them even though he was the leader among his brothers. And a ruler came from his family line. But the rights of the oldest son belonged to Joseph.

though Judah became strong among his brothers and a chief came from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph),

The descendants of Judah became the most powerful tribe and provided a ruler for the nation, but the birthright belonged to Joseph.

『猶大之地伯利恆啊！你在猶大的首要城鄉中，絕不是最小的，因為將來有一位領袖要從你那裡出來，他要牧養我的子民以色列。』」

就是說，我們的主明顯是從猶大支派興起的，而對於這個支派，摩西從來沒有提到有關祭司的事。

基列屬於我，瑪拿西也屬於我，以法蓮是我的頭盔，猶大是我的權杖。

猶大啊，你的兄弟們必稱讚你，你的手必壓住仇敵的頸項，你父親的眾子必向你下拜。猶大是只小獅子；我兒啊，你獵食而歸，屈身蹲伏，躺如公獅，臥如母獅，誰敢驚動你？權杖必不離開猶大，王杖必不離他兩腳之間，直到「細羅」來到，萬民都要歸順他。

基列屬於我，瑪拿西也屬於我，以法蓮是我的頭盔，猶大是我的權杖。

他卻揀選了猶大支派，他所愛的錫安山。他建造他的聖所如同高峰，又像他永遠建立的大地。他揀選了自己的僕人大衛，從羊圈中把他挑選出來，從所照顧的哺乳母羊當中把他帶出來，為要牧養自己的子民雅各，自己的繼業以色列。

莉亞的兒子是雅各的長子魯本，還有西緬、利未、猶大、以薩迦和西布倫。

耶西就派人去把他帶來；他面色紅潤，雙目清秀，樣貌英俊。耶和華說：「起來膏抹他，就是這個人！」

可是長老中有一位對我說：「不要哭了！看哪，那出於猶大支派的獅子、大衛的根已經得勝，可以打開那書卷和它的七個封印。」

耶和華對撒母耳說：「你為掃羅悲慟要到什麼時候呢？我已經厭棄他作以色列的王。你把犄角裝滿膏油，去吧，我要派遣你到伯利恆人耶西那裡，因為我在他的兒子中選定了一個王。」

因為神預先所知道的人，神也預先定下他們和他兒子的形像相似，使他兒子在眾多弟兄中做長子；

你父親的祝福勝過我祖先的祝福，達到永世山嶺的極限。願這些祝福臨到約瑟的頭上，就是臨到從兄弟中分別出來的那位的頭頂。

大衛作王統治全以色列，大衛為所有百姓實行公正和公義。

耶西讓他的七個兒子都從撒母耳面前經過，撒母耳對耶西說：「耶和華沒有揀選這些人。」
