Thus were they divided by lot, one sort with another; for the governors of the sanctuary, and governors[ of the house] of God, were of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar.And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the scribe,[ one] of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and[ before] the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for Eleazar, and[ one] taken for Ithamar.

And their brethren the sons of Merari[ stood] on the left hand: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,

But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or[ one] unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on[ his] face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.

Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD.

And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because[ he is] good, for his mercy[ endureth] for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

[ It is a] good[ thing] to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.

Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced: for God had made them rejoice with great joy: the wives also and the children rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off.And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.And both the singers and the porters kept the ward of their God, and the ward of the purification, according to the commandment of David,[ and] of Solomon his son.For in the days of David and Asaph of old[ there were] chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving unto God.

Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that[ had been] king David’s, which[ were] in the house of God.

And the chief of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brethren over against them, to praise[ and] to give thanks, according to the commandment of David the man of God, ward over against ward.

And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren[ to be] the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;And with them their brethren of the second[ degree], Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, the porters.So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan,[ were appointed] to sound with cymbals of brass;And Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries on Alamoth;And Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps on the Sheminith to excel.

And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king’s seer, and Nathan the prophet: for[ so was] the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

And he appointed[ certain] of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to record, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obededom: and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals;
