David said,“ Of these, twenty- four thousand are to be in charge of the work of the temple of the Lord and six thousand are to be officials and judges.

David said,“ From them, 24,000 will be in charge of the work of the Lord’ s temple. And 6,000 will be officials and judges.

“ Twenty-four thousand of these,” David said,“ shall have charge of the work in the house of the Lord, 6,000 shall be officers and judges,

Then David said,“ From all the Levites, 24,000 will supervise the work at the Temple of the Lord. Another 6,000 will serve as officials and judges.

“ Of these,” David said,“ twenty-four thousand are to be in charge of the work on the LORD’s temple, six thousand are to be officers and judges,

In Jerusalem also, Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites, priests and heads of Israelite families to administer the law of the Lord and to settle disputes. And they lived in Jerusalem. (niv)

Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the Lord your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly. (niv)

In the second month of the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak and the rest of the people( the priests and the Levites and all who had returned from the captivity to Jerusalem) began the work. They appointed Levites twenty years old and older to supervise the building of the house of the Lord.Joshua and his sons and brothers and Kadmiel and his sons( descendants of Hodaviah) and the sons of Henadad and their sons and brothers— all Levites— joined together in supervising those working on the house of God. Joel son of Zikri was their chief officer, and Judah son of Hassenuah was over the New Quarter of the city. (niv)

The duty of the Levites was to help Aaron’s descendants in the service of the temple of the Lord: to be in charge of the courtyards, the side rooms, the purification of all sacred things and the performance of other duties at the house of God.They were in charge of the bread set out on the table, the special flour for the grain offerings, the thin loaves made without yeast, the baking and the mixing, and all measurements of quantity and size.They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord. They were to do the same in the eveningand whenever burnt offerings were presented to the Lord on the Sabbaths, at the New Moon feasts and at the appointed festivals. They were to serve before the Lord regularly in the proper number and in the way prescribed for them.And so the Levites carried out their responsibilities for the tent of meeting, for the Holy Place and, under their relatives the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the temple of the Lord. The chief officer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mika. Uzzi was one of Asaph’s descendants, who were the musicians responsible for the service of the house of God. (niv)

Their fellow Levites were in charge of the treasuries of the house of God and the treasuries for the dedicated things.The descendants of Ladan, who were Gershonites through Ladan and who were heads of families belonging to Ladan the Gershonite, were Jehieli,the sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel. They were in charge of the treasuries of the temple of the Lord.From the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites and the Uzzielites:Shubael, a descendant of Gershom son of Moses, was the official in charge of the treasuries.His relatives through Eliezer: Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zikri his son and Shelomith his son.Shelomith and his relatives were in charge of all the treasuries for the things dedicated by King David, by the heads of families who were the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and by the other army commanders.Some of the plunder taken in battle they dedicated for the repair of the temple of the Lord. If cases come before your courts that are too difficult for you to judge— whether bloodshed, lawsuits or assaults— take them to the place the Lord your God will choose.Go to the Levitical priests and to the judge who is in office at that time. Inquire of them and they will give you the verdict.You must act according to the decisions they give you at the place the Lord will choose. Be careful to do everything they instruct you to do. (niv)

Their fellow Levites were assigned to all the other duties of the tabernacle, the house of God. (niv)

Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. (niv)

From the Izharites: Kenaniah and his sons were assigned duties away from the temple, as officials and judges over Israel.From the Hebronites: Hashabiah and his relatives— seventeen hundred able men— were responsible in Israel west of the Jordan for all the work of the Lord and for the king’s service.As for the Hebronites, Jeriah was their chief according to the genealogical records of their families. In the fortieth year of David’s reign a search was made in the records, and capable men among the Hebronites were found at Jazer in Gilead. (niv)

“ For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, because he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty and people seek instruction from his mouth. (niv)

Some of them were in charge of the articles used in the temple service; they counted them when they were brought in and when they were taken out.Others were assigned to take care of the furnishings and all the other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the special flour and wine, and the olive oil, incense and spices.But some of the priests took care of mixing the spices.A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with the responsibility for baking the offering bread.Some of the Kohathites, their fellow Levites, were in charge of preparing for every Sabbath the bread set out on the table.
