The duty of the Levites was to help Aaron’s descendants in the service of the temple of the Lord: to be in charge of the courtyards, the side rooms, the purification of all sacred things and the performance of other duties at the house of God.

The Levites had the duty of helping the members of Aaron’s family line. They helped them serve in the Lord’ s temple. They were in charge of the courtyards and the side rooms. They made all the sacred things pure and“ clean.” They also had other duties at the house of God.

For their duty was to assist the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, having the care of the courts and the chambers, the cleansing of all that is holy, and any work for the service of the house of God.

The work of the Levites was to assist the priests, the descendants of Aaron, as they served at the house of the Lord. They also took care of the courtyards and side rooms, helped perform the ceremonies of purification, and served in many other ways in the house of God.

“ but their duty will be to assist the descendants of Aaron with the service of the LORD’s temple, being responsible for the courts and the chambers, the purification of all the holy things, and the work of the service of God’s temple—

For their office is to assist the sons of Aaron with the service of the house of the Lord, in the courtyards and in the chambers, and in the purification of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God,

because their duty was to help the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts and in the chambers, in the purifying of all holy things and the work of the service of the house of God,

For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Jehovah, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God;

Because their office[ was] to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

Their job was to help Aaron’s descendants in the service of the LORD’s temple. They were to take care of the courtyards, the rooms, ceremonial purification of all holy items, and other jobs related to the service of God’s temple.

For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of Yahweh’s house, in the courts, and in the rooms, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of God’s house;

对他们说：“利未人啊，请听我说！现在你们要洁净自己，也要洁净你们祖先的上帝耶和华的殿，除去圣所中的污秽之物。

然后，他们晋见希西迦王，说：“我们已经洁净了整个耶和华的殿、燔祭坛以及坛上的一切器皿、供饼的桌子及桌子上的一切器皿。我们已备齐亚哈斯王对上帝不忠时所废弃的器皿，并洁净了它们，现在都放在耶和华的坛前。”

靠殿墙、围着外殿和内殿又造了三层厢房，

圣殿门廊的墙壁上有格子窗和棕树雕刻，厢房都有房檐。

“你去叫利未支派来协助亚伦祭司。他们要为亚伦和全体会众在会幕司职，办理圣幕的事务，也要负责看守会幕里面的器具，为以色列人办理圣幕的事务。你要把利未人交给亚伦父子们，因为他们是从以色列人中选出来协助亚伦的。

耶何耶大的儿子比拿雅统管基利提人和比利提人。大卫王的众子都在他左右做首领。

其中有两万四千人在耶和华的殿里司职，六千人做官长和审判官，

你们要好好保管，护送到耶路撒冷耶和华殿的库房里，要在祭司长、利未人和以色列的各族长面前过秤。”

于是，希西迦下令在耶和华的殿里预备库房。他们预备好后，

这事之前，被委派负责上帝殿库房的以利亚实祭司因与多比雅是亲戚，就为多比雅预备了一个大房间，这房间从前用来存放素祭、乳香、器皿，按律法给利未人、歌乐手、殿门守卫的十分之一五谷、新酒和新油，以及给祭司的举祭。

他对我说：“这些在南北两面对着圣殿空地的厢房都是圣洁的，供事奉耶和华的祭司在那里吃至圣的祭物，并放置素祭、赎罪祭和赎过祭，因为这是圣洁的地方。

利未人宰杀逾越节的羊羔，祭司从他们手中接过血，洒在坛上，又剥去祭牲的皮。他们按照宗族把燔祭分给众人，好使他们按照摩西书上所写的，把祭物献给耶和华。献牛也是这样。他们按规定用火烤逾越节的羊羔，在锅里、罐里和盆里煮圣物，然后迅速分给民众。之后，利未人为自己和祭司预备祭物，因为做祭司的亚伦子孙要继续献燔祭和脂肪一直到晚上。

内院十米宽的空地和外院的铺石地对面有三层高的走廊彼此相对。

又对将自己献给耶和华、负责教导以色列人的利未人说：“你们把圣约柜放在以色列王大卫的儿子所罗门建的殿里，不用再扛在肩上。现在你们去事奉你们的上帝耶和华和祂的以色列子民吧。你们要按宗族和班次，依照以色列王大卫和他儿子所罗门所写的指示，预备自己。你们要按你们弟兄所在宗族的班次，侍立在圣所，每个班次中要有几个利未宗族的人。你们要宰杀逾越节的羊羔，洁净自己，为你们的弟兄做好准备，依照耶和华借摩西所吩咐的去行。”

厢房是一层叠一层的，共有三层，每层有三十个房间。殿墙外围有支撑厢房梁木的墙坎，以免梁木插入殿墙中。这些厢房的设计是阶梯形的；因此，厢房越往上层越宽，有楼梯自下层经过中层到上层。殿的周围有突出的平台，高一竿，构成厢房的根基。厢房外墙厚二点五米，厢房与祭司房之间的空地宽十米。
