雅比斯比他众兄弟更尊贵，他母亲给他起名叫雅比斯，意思说：“我生他甚是痛苦。”雅比斯求告以色列的神说：“甚愿你赐福与我，扩张我的疆界，你的手常与我同在，保佑我不遭患难，不受艰苦。”神就应允他所求的。

“你们怎么说：‘我们有智慧，耶和华的律法在我们这里’？看哪，其实文士的假笔舞弄虚假。

这以斯拉从巴比伦上来，他是一个文士，精通耶和华—以色列神所赐摩西的律法。王允准他一切所求的，因为耶和华—他神的手帮助他。

扫罗对基尼人说：“你们离开亚玛力人下去吧，免得我把你们和亚玛力人一同杀灭，因为以色列众人从埃及上来的时候，你们曾恩待他们。”于是基尼人离开了亚玛力人。
