亚扪的官长却对哈嫩说：“大卫派人来安慰你，你以为他是来吊唁你父亲吗？他的臣仆来见你不过是来探听虚实，想征服这地方。”

但亚扪人的众领袖对哈嫩说：“大卫差派这些慰问的人到你这里来，你以为他是尊敬你父亲吗？他的臣仆来见你，不是为了窥探、倾覆、侦察这地吗？”

但亞捫人的首領對哈嫩說：「大衛差人來安慰你，你想他是尊敬你父親嗎？他的臣僕來見你不是為詳察窺探、傾覆這地嗎？」

但是亞捫人的首領對哈嫩說：大衛差遣慰問者到你這裏來、你看他是敬重你父親麼？他的臣僕到你這裏來、豈不是要窺察、傾覆、偵探這地麼？』

亞捫族之牧伯謂哈嫩曰、大衛遣唁者詣爾、爾意大衛果敬爾父乎、其僕詣爾、詎非窺察此地、而滅之耶、

亞捫族諸伯告哈嫩曰、爾謂大闢唁爾父喪、其意豈在尊崇乎。蓋遣其臣、詳察我地、使我敗亡耳。

亞捫之侯伯謂哈嫩曰、大衛遣使來唁王、王以為大衛果敬王父乎、其臣僕來見王、乃欲窺探斯地以傾滅之、

the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun,“ Do you think David is honoring your father by sending envoys to you to express sympathy? Haven’t his envoys come to you only to explore and spy out the country and overthrow it?”

The Ammonite commanders spoke to Hanun. They said,“ David has sent messengers to tell you he is sad. They say he wants to honor your father. But the real reason they’ve come is to look the land over. They want to destroy it.”

But the princes of the Ammonites said to Hanun,“ Do you think, because David has sent comforters to you, that he is honoring your father? Have not his servants come to you to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land?”

the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun,“ Do you really think these men are coming here to honor your father? No! David has sent them to spy out the land so they can come in and conquer it!”

the Ammonite leaders said to Hanun,“ Just because David has sent men with condolences for you, do you really believe he’s showing respect for your father? Instead, haven’t his emissaries come in order to scout out, overthrow, and spy on the land?”

But the commanders among the sons of Ammon said to Hanun,“ Do you think that David is honoring your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Have his servants not come to you to search, to demolish, and to spy out the land?”

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honor thy father, in that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

the Ammonite leaders said to Hanun,“ Just because David has sent men with condolences for you, do you really believe he’s showing respect for your father? Instead, hasn’t David sent his emissaries in order to scout out, overthrow, and spy on the land?”

the Ammonite officials said to Hanun,“ Do you really think David is trying to honor your father by sending these messengers to express his sympathy? No, his servants have come to you so they can get information and spy out the land!”

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun,“ Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Haven’t his servants come to you to search, to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”

does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.And he said to them,“ What advice do you give? How should we answer this people who have spoken to me, saying,‘ Lighten the yoke which your father put on us’?”Then the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying,“ Thus you should speak to this people who have spoken to you, saying,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you make it lighter on us’— thus you shall say to them:‘ My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s waist!And now, whereas my father put a heavy yoke on you, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges!’”

So the house of Joseph sent men to spy out Bethel.( The name of the city was formerly Luz.)And when the spies saw a man coming out of the city, they said to him,“ Please show us the entrance to the city, and we will show you mercy.”

But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; so the princes of the Philistines said to him,“ Make this fellow return, that he may go back to the place which you have appointed for him, and do not let him go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become our adversary. For with what could he reconcile himself to his master, if not with the heads of these men?

Then Achish answered and said to David,“ I know that you are as good in my sight as an angel of God; nevertheless the princes of the Philistines have said,‘ He shall not go up with us to the battle.’

Then the spies came back to their brethren at Zorah and Eshtaol, and their brethren said to them,“ What is your report?”So they said,“ Arise, let us go up against them. For we have seen the land, and indeed it is very good. Would you do nothing? Do not hesitate to go, and enter to possess the land.When you go, you will come to a secure people and a large land. For God has given it into your hands, a place where there is no lack of anything that is on the earth.”

Then Joseph remembered the dreams which he had dreamed about them, and said to them,“ You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land!”And they said to him,“ No, my Lord, but your servants have come to buy food.We are all one man’s sons; we are honest men; your servants are not spies.”But he said to them,“ No, but you have come to see the nakedness of the land.”And they said,“ Your servants are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and in fact, the youngest is with our father today, and one is no more.”But Joseph said to them,“ It is as I spoke to you, saying,‘ You are spies!’In this manner you shall be tested: By the life of Pharaoh, you shall not leave this place unless your youngest brother comes here.Send one of you, and let him bring your brother; and you shall be kept in prison, that your words may be tested to see whether there is any truth in you; or else, by the life of Pharaoh, surely you are spies!”So he put them all together in prison three days.Then Joseph said to them the third day,“ Do this and live, for I fear God:

So the children of Dan sent five men of their family from their territory, men of valor from Zorah and Eshtaol, to spy out the land and search it. They said to them,“ Go, search the land.” So they went to the mountains of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.

Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying,“ Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there.And it was told the king of Jericho, saying,“ Behold, men have come here tonight from the children of Israel to search out the country.”So the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying,“ Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered your house, for they have come to search out all the country.”
