Yet I am just a youth with no experience in leadership.Your servant is among your people you have chosen, a people too many to be numbered or counted.So give your servant a receptive heart to judge your people and to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of yours?”Now it pleased the Lord that Solomon had requested this.So God said to him,“ Because you have requested this and did not ask for long life or riches for yourself, or the death of your enemies, but you asked discernment for yourself to administer justice,

And out of all my sons— for the LORD has given me many sons— he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the LORD’s kingdom over Israel.He said to me,‘ Your son Solomon is the one who is to build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba; he went to her and slept with her. She gave birth to a son and named him Solomon. The LORD loved him,and he sent a message through the prophet Nathan, who named him Jedidiah, because of the LORD.

But a son will be born to you; he will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies, for his name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.He is the one who will build a house for my name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’“ Now, my son, may the LORD be with you, and may you succeed in building the house of the LORD your God, as he said about you.Above all, may the LORD give you insight and understanding when he puts you in charge of Israel so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.
