基列耶琳人就下来，将耶和华的约柜接上去，放在山上亚比拿达的家中，分派他儿子以利亚撒看守耶和华的约柜。约柜在基列耶琳许久。过了二十年，以色列全家都倾向耶和华。

我们听说约柜在以法他，我们在基列耶琳就寻见了。

那时神的约柜在以色列人那里。扫罗对亚希亚说：“你将神的约柜运了来。”

大卫知道扫罗设计谋害他，就对祭司亚比亚他说：“将以弗得拿过来。”大卫祷告说：“耶和华以色列的神啊，你仆人听真了扫罗要往基伊拉来，为我的缘故灭城。基伊拉人将我交在扫罗手里不交？扫罗照着你仆人所听的话下来不下来？耶和华以色列的神啊，求你指示仆人！”耶和华说：“扫罗必下来。”大卫又说：“基伊拉人将我和跟随我的人交在扫罗手里不交？”耶和华说：“必交出来。”

所以大卫求问耶和华说：“我去攻打那些非利士人可以不可以？”耶和华对大卫说：“你可以去攻打非利士人，拯救基伊拉。”

扫罗说：“我们不如夜里下去追赶非利士人，抢掠他们，直到天亮，不留他们一人。”众民说：“你看怎样好就去行吧！”祭司说：“我们先当亲近神。”

我岂是从今日才为他求问神呢？断不是这样！王不要将罪归我和我父的全家；因为这事，无论大小，仆人都不知道。”

亚希米勒为他求问耶和华，又给他食物，并给他杀非利士人歌利亚的刀。”
