and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

He didn’t ask the Lord for advice. So the Lord put him to death. He turned the kingdom over to David. David was the son of Jesse.

He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

instead of asking the Lord for guidance. So the Lord killed him and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

but he did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

撒母耳就对他说：“耶和华今天从你身上撕去了以色列的王权，赐给了你的邻人，他比你好。

但如今，你的王权不会长久了，耶和华已经为自己找到一个合乎他心意的人，耶和华任命这人作他子民的领袖，因为你不遵守耶和华吩咐你的。”

耶和华对撒母耳说：“你为扫罗悲恸要到什么时候呢？我已经厌弃他作以色列的王。你把犄角装满膏油，去吧，我要派遣你到伯利恒人耶西那里，因为我在他的儿子中选定了一个王。”

耶和华应验了他藉着我所说的话：耶和华从你的手中撕夺了王权，赐给了与你邻近的人——大卫。

扫罗求问耶和华，耶和华却没有藉着梦，或乌陵，或先知回应他。

撒母耳问耶西：“孩子们全来了吗？”耶西回答：“还剩下最小的那个，看哪，他正在放羊。”撒母耳对耶西说：“派人去把他带来，在他来到之前，我们不会入席。”耶西就派人去把他带来；他面色红润，双目清秀，样貌英俊。耶和华说：“起来膏抹他，就是这个人！”于是撒母耳拿起装膏油的犄角，在他兄弟们当中膏抹了他。从那天以后，耶和华的灵就大大临到大卫。撒母耳起身回拉玛去了。

但这不是他所想的，也不是他的心思打算；他心里所怀的却是毁灭、剪除多国。

那以恶报善的人，恶事不会离开他的家。

斧头怎能向用斧伐木的人自夸呢？锯子怎能向拉锯的人自大呢？这简直是说，棍能挥动那举棍的，木杖能举起那本不是木头的人！
