The Seventh Seal
1When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence8:1 Hab 2:20; Zph 1:7; Zch 2:13 in heaven for about half an hour.
2Then I saw the seven angels who stand in the presence of God;8:2 Lk 1:19; Rv 15:1,6–8; 16:1; 17:1; 21:9 seven trumpets were given to them.8:2 Jos 6:6; Zph 1:14–16
3Another angel, with a golden incense burner, came and stood at the altar. He was given a large amount of incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar in front of the throne.8:3 Rv 5:8
4The smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up in the presence of God from the angel’s hand.
5The angel took the incense burner, filled it with fire from the altar,8:5 Lv 6:12–13; Nm 16:46 and hurled it to the earth; there were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.8:5 Rv 4:5

6And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.
The First Trumpet
7The first angel blew his trumpet, and hail and fire, mixed with blood, were hurled to the earth.8:7 Ex 9:13–35; Jl 2:30–31 So a third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.8:7 Ezk 5:12; 38:22; Zch 13:8–9; Lk 21:25–26; Rv 9:15,18; 12:4
The Second Trumpet
8The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain ablaze with fire was hurled into the sea.8:8 Jr 51:25; Mk 11:23 So a third of the sea became blood,8:8 Ex 7:20–21
9a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
